We hire people who can hold a conversation with a client as well as with a compiler. Most of our engineers talk directly to the businesses they are building for.
What it is like
You will be on a small named team with real responsibility for a system, not a ticket queue fed by someone else. That means you find out whether your decisions were right, which is the only way anyone gets better at making them.
We work in the open: code review on everything, a standing call with the client, and estimates you are expected to push back on. Being wrong early is fine here. Being quiet about it is not.
